Have you ever tried romaine in a smoothie? I’ll be honest, my first thought was “whaaaa?” But after I tried it, I was sold! It makes the smoothie very light and refreshing and the mild flavor of the romaine pair perfectly with the sweet mango. Plus, romaine is low in calories, high in fiber and packed full of Vitamin C. Sooo, yeah. I’m on board.

With today being Smoothie Saturday I wanted to take the opportunity to share my newest romaine-in-a-smoothie combination. This smoothie is crazy simple and just a few ingredients. It starts with coconut water, a couple of mangos, romaine, an orange and banana for richness. That’s it.

I’ve been sticking with my new routine of replacing a meal (sometimes breakfast, sometimes lunch) with a green smoothie. It’s been helping me stick to my healthier eating habits, and so far it’s working. It definitely helps when the smoothies are filling, and loading the smoothies up on greens really helps do the trick. It’s a fiber thing.

  1. I’m curious now… I would never think to put lettuce in a smoothie! I guess spinach works, so romaine should too if you say so!

    • I just made a smoothie with radish greens and it was amazing! I had no idea you could do that, but I am all about trying new greens now 🙂 I’ll be sharing that recipe soon!
